September 9th we celebrated the first “birthday” of our podcast, Hello Frances. With over 50 episodes on the channel, we can honestly say “DO IT” if you are on the fence about starting your own podcast. But you’ve heard that from us before...
Previously, we shared the reasons why you should start a podcast, and now you need to know the how. Many people tell us they want to launch a podcast, but are unsure where to start. We’ve been through the process and found that if you cover these three simple steps, you can have a successful podcast.
1. Find Your Why.
First things first, what message do you want to share, and why? Knowing your reason for starting your podcast is the most important foundational step of the process. Understanding your why will help you come up with episode topics, connect with your target audience, and will motivate you to show up on the microphone even when your not feeling inspired.
2. Get Technical.
The most intimidating part of starting a podcast is the equipment, but we are here to tell you it doesn’t have to be! We don’t have a studio. We don’t have elaborate equipment. We have a simple microphone setup and a few apps that help us edit each episode. If you want a list of items we use to record and edit podcasts, we are happy to share them with you. Send us an email at [email protected]!
3. Create a Consistent Strategy.
Before you record and launch your podcast, you want to create a content strategy, to include copy, graphics, and more to promote the podcast. Be sure to layout your content weeks in advance to provide consistency for listeners. That way, you can decide if you want to release an episode each week or every other week. The decision is yours. Just be sure your viewers can count on a new episode when you say you are going to release one.
It’s that simple to launch your podcast. Don’t overthink it. Like anything else, if you wait until you are completely ready, you’ll be waiting much longer than you need to. If you have any questions about launching your podcast, feel free to reach out to us at [email protected].
