How to Market a Big Milestone

Is your company celebrating a milestone or anniversary? If so, have you thought about how to mark the milestone? 

We recently had the pleasure of branding the Mattie Kelly Arts Foundation’s 25th-year celebration. Along with creating a temporary logo to commemorate their silver anniversary, we implemented multiple strategies and tactics to ensure that their patrons, the local community, and media partners were aware of the momentous occasion and encouraged to celebrate alongside MKAF throughout the year.

If you have a big milestone approaching, here are a few things to keep in mind to successfully market the event. 

Stay True to Your Brand.

When you create a new look, messaging, or marketing items for your celebration, those that are familiar with your organization should immediately recognize the components. Keep in mind that you are creating an extension of your brand, not new brand elements. Your company’s mission, vision, and goals should stay top of mind, and the marketing for the celebration should be a supplement to your company’s overall marketing strategy. 

Set Goals. 

Do you want to have a record-setting fundraising year? Do you want to increase your market share? Make sure you determine S.M.A.R.T. (specific, measurable, attainable, relevant, and timely) goals so that you can measure the success of your milestone campaign. You don’t want to put the time and effort into branding and marketing your celebration without knowing if the work was worth it. 

Spread the word.  

Once you have goals and branding elements solidified, you will want to spread the word about your milestone far and wide! Determine key messages that you want to share regarding the celebration and include them in your website copy, social media posts, public relations efforts, and beyond. If relevant, host events to invite your patrons to take part in the achievement. The more people feel that your celebration is inclusive, the buzz your event will generate.
