Instead of finding her way to Frances Roy, the idea of Frances Roy came to Shantelle after a desire to create her own career and provide an environment for others to work freely and live fully. When asked what Frances Roy core value resonates the most with her, Shantelle says “I find my grandparents in each of our core values and it’s difficult for me to narrow it down to one, but recently I discovered my core motivation in life is truly having the freedom to decide.”
Shantelle is energized at work by streamlining brilliant ideas into efficient implementations. Frances Roy’s team members excel in this area and it shows in our client work. “Our team can accomplish in 10 hours what it takes 10 times that to produce. Humble brag? Sure, but we back it up,” she says.
“You know what’s overrated? Being the smartest person in the room,” Shantelle says. Her best piece of professional advice is that you don’t have to be the smartest person in the room, instead find ways to be the most helpful. She says, “My career didn’t come into alignment until I stopped trying to be the most intelligent person and began to strive to be the most helpful person.”
One topic that Shantelle wishes to learn about this year is managing happiness. “I started my first day in the HarvardX course on Managing Happiness back in August of last year,” she says. Led by Harvard professor, author, social scientist, and former classical musician Arthur Brooks, this course introduces cutting-edge survey tools, the best research, and trends in social science, neuroscience, and philosophy to help learners unlock the strategies to create a more purposeful life, full of long-lasting enjoyment and satisfaction. “Managing Happiness uses philosophical and technical insights to challenge assumptions about happiness–it’s right up my alley,” Shantelle says.
