Make Your Meyers Briggs Personality Type Work for You

We at France Roy are obsessed with the Meyers-Briggs Type Indicator. If you haven’t taken time to learn your personality type (there are 16 to choose from, and they’re usually scarily accurate), we would encourage you to stop here and take the assessment. The official personality test includes a fee of $49.95, but you can also take a less extensive (and slightly less accurate) quiz for free here.

At FRA, we dive into research and listen to podcasts like The Personality Hacker. This is “an organization designed to help people leverage their own mental processes to optimize whatever can be optimized: productivity, communication, job satisfaction, and most importantly – happiness.” For us, this research — and implementation — seems to build morale and make everyone aware of how we can use our differences as collaborated strengths!

First, what are the 16 personality types? Check out the chart below to view all 16 types (some words to describe each are also included).

Organizations large and small have encouraged staff members to take this assessment to better understand the motivations of their employees.

From meyersbriggs.org: “When you understand your type preferences, you can approach your own work in a manner that best suits your style, including: how you manage your time, problem solving, best approaches for decision making, and dealing with stress. Knowledge of type can help you better understand the culture of the place you work, develop new skills, understand your participation in teams, and cope with change in the workplace.

If your work involves selling, knowledge of type can be helpful in understanding what clients need from you, especially how they best like to learn about products and services and how they like to interact during the process of gathering information and making decisions.”

If you’re hoping to develop some team-building exercises in a staff meeting, we highly encourage incorporating the Meyers-Briggs Type Indicator to better understand your diverse group of employees!

In our office alone (including our contract workers), we have multiple types represented. By learning more about our personalities, we can become a better team. Check out a few of our favorite related articles below!

In all, we hope you will take some time to learn more about your personality and to learn more about the personalities around you in the office. You might be surprised that a simple quiz can help you determine how to navigate conflicts or difficult conversations more easily!
